How to Utilize the Recovery Submission Bot

Modified on Thu, 01 Jun 2023 at 08:14 AM

The recovery submission bot is a tool utilized to facilitate the ability for customer's and dealer's to submit their own recovery requests without the need to call or contact support first. This helps streamline the process as well as sets you the customer up to have quick access for a recovery request whenever needed.

(The bot is currently only available for X4, LWTS, and BDX devices on Supported Ford Applications. More support will be added in the future.)

(Note: If you already have the Device Updater Software skip this step.)

(Note: Make sure the Device is NOT plugged into the PC while installing. Drivers will fail to load.)

  • You should have a popup in your browser showing the .exe downloading. You will be given options such as Open / Run / Show in Folder. You will want to Run / Open the .exe to start the Installation.
  • Once you run the app you will be presented with a prompt to allow the program to make changes.

 Select "YES"

  • This will begin the installation process.
  • Select Next. (Note: If the Device is Plugged into PC when you hit "Next" drivers could FAIL to load! Unplug it!)
  • Then Install.
  • And, Finally Finish.

(Great! Device Updater is Installed and Ready to help us get Device Info and your .bef file in Step 3.)

Step 2: Creating a Vehicle Recovery Folder on your Windows Desktop

  • Right-click on an empty area of your desktop then from the context menu, hover over "New" and then select "Folder." This will create a new folder on your desktop.
  • Right-click on the newly created folder and select "Rename" from the context menu.
  • Give the folder a name that will stand out such as "Vehicle Recovery Files".
  • Open the folder and right-click anywhere inside then from the context menu, hover over "New" and then select "Text Document." This will create a new text file inside our folder we created.
  • Open the Text File we created and copy and paste the information needed from below into it.

  • We can now save the text file by navigating to the top File Menu and selecting "Save As..." from the menu. We will then give the Text File a descriptive name such as "Vehicle Recovery Info.txt".

(Great we have prepped our info .txt file we will come back to it and get it filled out in Step 3.)

Step 3: Gathering Required .bef File and Device / Vehicle Information

  • To begin this step we will now connect your device to the PC and Launch the Device Updater Program we installed earlier.
  • Once you are displayed the Device Updater Menu you would want to select "Display Device Setting and Serial Number".
  • This will give you a listing of all your device info which you will then use to fill out our text file template for your Part # and Serial #.
  • Next you will need to grab the .bef file from the device by hitting the back button to go back to the main menu and selecting "Get Stock File from Device".
  • On the next screen select "Browse" to navigate to the folder you want to save your device file too.
  • At this point you will be prompted to select which folder you would like to save it too. This is where we would navigate to our "Vehicle Recovery Files" folder we made on the Desktop and Select It then hit the "OK" button.
  • This will save the . bef file from your device to the "Vehicle Recovery Files" folder we made. Hit the "OK" button.
  • The last step of the process is to take the device out to your vehicle and gather the final pieces of information for our "Vehicle Recovery Info.txt" file.
  • The Video Below demonstrates how to get the information. Take something with you to document the information needed outlined in RED above.
